Best Dumbbell Sets in Canada (For Every Budget, 2026)

You don’t need a $4500 commercial-grade Eleiko set. For most home gyms, a $200–$600 dumbbell set covers 90% of the work. Here is what to actually buy in Canada in 2026.

Dumbbells are the highest-leverage piece of equipment for a home gym — versatile, durable, and useful from beginner to intermediate-advanced training. The Canadian market has good options at every price tier, but the “best” set depends entirely on space, budget and ambition. Here is the breakdown.

Three categories worth knowing

Fixed dumbbells: a rack of pairs at fixed weights (e.g. 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 lb). Most durable, most floor-space, fastest to grab between sets.

Adjustable dumbbells (selectorized): a single pair that swaps between weights via a dial or pin (Bowflex SelectTech, NÜO Lite, PowerBlock). Saves enormous space, slow to change weights, more fragile.

Plate-loaded adjustable dumbbells: spinlock or screw-on collar handles that take standard plates. Cheapest, most flexible, slowest to change.

Best at every budget

Under $200 — Plate-loaded adjustable. Cap Barbell or Yes4All spinlock handles + plates at Canadian Tire or Amazon.ca. Will get you 5–50 lb per hand. Slow to change but functional.

$200–$600 — Bowflex SelectTech 552 or PowerBlock Sport 50. The two best mid-range adjustables in Canada. SelectTech goes from 5 to 52.5 lb in 2.5 lb increments — covers nearly all hypertrophy and accessory work for most lifters.

$600–$1500 — NÜO Lite 50 or PowerBlock Pro 100. Sturdier, longer-lasting, supports heavier loads. PowerBlock Pro 100 (with the optional expander) goes to 125 lb.

$1500+ — Fixed rubber-coated set. Northern Lights, Rogue Canada or Eleiko hex sets. 5–50 lb pairs (10 pairs) runs $1500–$3000. Eleiko is “buy them once, your grandkids inherit them” quality.

What to look for

Knurling depth: shallow knurl is fine for most users; deep knurl matters for heavy deadlifts and rows above 80 lb.

Handle diameter: 27–32 mm is standard. Thicker (Fat Gripz or thick-bar handles) trains grip but is harder to use for high-rep work.

Weight increment: 2.5 lb minimum jumps for hypertrophy. Most adjustables now offer this; older Bowflex models jumped 5 lb between settings.

Adjustment speed: dial systems (Bowflex) are 1 second; pin systems (PowerBlock) are 5–10 seconds. Worth measuring if you do a lot of supersets.

Where to buy in Canada

Bowflex SelectTech 552: Bowflex.ca, Costco.ca, Best Buy. Frequent sales bring it to ~$549 (regular $749).

PowerBlock: Northern Lights direct, ChampionFitness.ca, or Amazon.ca.

Cap Barbell / Yes4All: Amazon.ca, Walmart.ca. Cheapest entry point.

Northern Lights, Rogue Canada, Eleiko: direct from manufacturer for highest-end fixed sets.

The bottom line

For 90% of Canadian home gyms, a Bowflex SelectTech 552 pair is the right answer — covers 5–52.5 lb in 2.5 lb increments, fits in a closet, and lasts 5+ years of regular use. Upgrade to PowerBlock Pro or fixed dumbbells only if you regularly press above 60 lb or if you have the floor space and budget.
